Report 9/10/15

Post by subeditor » Fri Oct 09, 2015 10:51 am

Well the wind has come to give us a kick in rear end. But not all is lost as this turn of weather events won’t be lasting too long. From Friday afternoon the wind and swell will be set to drop.

We have had a great variety of success offshore over the last few weeks. The water temperatures have risen to around 22 degrees and the summer fish are making their way in. The very odd Spanish Mackerel have been caught although they are barely legal it is promising. The snapper are still around but have been a little quiet and are more on the squire side with the big nobbies hanging out wider. Over the last few days the increase in Cobia caught has been quite significant as the average weight being around 5-12kg. Slow jigging, livies and floating Pillies have worked wonders. While white soft plastics working well across most species last week.
CORAL reef fin fish will be off limits from this Saturday, October 10 as part of the first of two annual closures that protect these fish during spawning season.

The estuaries and land based fishing has produced some great fish around Pt. Cartwright headland with plenty of Trevally, school mackerel and a few Golden Trevally inside the river entrance. Flathead are on the rise with plenty of whiting along the beaches and throughout the river systems of the Maroochy, Mooloolah and The Pumicestone Passage. Small 2 inch grubs have been working on the small whiting and the flathead are going gangbuster on the Zerick Live Shrimp. Live herring and trolled hard body lures are working well with casting soft plastics into structure has been landing some great early season Mangrove Jack.

We now have a Youtube Channel so jump on and check some of the informative video’s we are
posting up. We would also consider adding any home video’s, of great action be it river, ocean or
beach. Please keep it PG. ... RaWdTsQmnw
