Report 25/8/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Aug 25, 2017 10:00 am

Things are starting to warm up and we aren't just talking about the air temperature! Everyone seems to have their fingers crossed that this could be the long awaited start to our Tuna season. There's been plenty of reports filtering through about 100kg+ fish being hooked, lost and landed, its just a matter of taking advantage of the brief windows of weather when mother nature is kind enough to let us out. Closer to home, the Bay has been producing some really nice snapper, including a 10kg behemoth off Rickets.

Western Port
Michael Hargrave fished around Corinella earlier this week, and snared himself this very nice Snapper. Michael reports that using fresh squid and fishing around the turn of the tide were the key ingredients to connecting with this big red.

Port Phillip Bay
John Karlik was fishing in the Bay last night catching some nice Salmon when he decided to venture over to Rickets and fish in close using one of the Salmon as bait. He was rewarded with a genuine 10kg Red that was swiftly followed up with 2 fish in the 4.5kg class.

Stav Kalait also took advantage of the conditions yesterday and wet a line in search of a Red. Stav fished with fresh squid which produced this nice box full of fish.

Yarra River
Local tournament angler, Paul Malov, has been getting into the local Bream population here in Melbourne in the Yarra River. Fishing Cranka Crabs tight into the Pylon structure that dots our iconic local waterway, Paul pulled out this great looking Bream by using a slow and methodical retrieve that makes these innovative lures come alive.

Port Macdonell
Mason Schulze Billy and Rialiegh ventured down to Port Mac recently to capitalize on the XOS Bluefin that have made on appearance in numbers over the past week along our coastline. He was rewarded with this cracking 110kg Barrel, which was 1 of 4 reported captures from Port Mac on Sunday.

Portland
Good customer, Doug, recently purchased a new Shimano Forcemaster 9000 electric reel from us in the store and opted to head down to Portland to christen the new toy. Doug reports that the sea conditions were poor at best on Saturday, so he and his crew were restricted to fishing shallower than the reels capabilities. However they managed to pull these respectable fish up from 160m, including an absolute cracking Flattie.

Simon Rinaldi from Red Hot Fishing Charters has been at the forefront this past week in locating and landing the Jumbo Bluefin that have started to show up. Pictured here is one of Simon's clients, Duncan Forrest with his 100kg fish!

Hot off the press were these ripper Tuna caught by Adrian Ryan and the second by Arron Habgood, Cozy and Nath onboard rojo.
