Report 13/1/17

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Jan 13, 2017 4:38 pm

This past week seems to have followed the trend of the last report with the local kingfish, tuna and gummy sharks dominating the reports. There is still some excellent whiting fishing to be had in both bays however the majority of people coming into the shop have been eager to get stuck into the awesome sport fishing options that are aplenty. The Kingfish reports so far this summer have been exceptional with many customers getting stuck into the kings this week. Theses fish have shown up everywhere and anywhere along the coast but over the last week there has been some particularly good fishing in our local waters, with multiple customers getting stuck into the kings in the "Rip." The past week has seen some exceptional weather allowing a heap of keen anglers to hit the water. But more importantly there seems to be some great weather coming through next week, particularly early in the week, which should see the excellent fishing continue.

Port Phillip Bay
The kings are really heating up with fish from one end of Victoria to the other and plenty in between. One of our customers from the shop and his mate Tolly, launched their boat "hard merchandise" at st Leonard's over the weekend in search of Kingfish at the Rip. The boys started jigging for kings from dawn and both managed their first Victorian Kingfish.

Young angler Bradley Anderson fished the South Channel of Port Phillip Bay during the dark on Monday night. Bradley was rewarded for putting in the hours, landing this excellent gummy shark of 12kg.

East Gippsland
Staff member Lee McDuffie with good mates Tom and Travis had a great day on the Vic kings on Thursday in east gippsland. The boys caught plenty of kingfish on live baits. They also had a good topwater session late in the day.

Portland
The Tuna bite down in Portland has continued this week with multiple customers getting stuck into the action. The school fish that are about at the moment are very solid in size up to approximately 30kg. The whiting, flathead and gummy shark catches have also been impressive with the cleaning tables full of these excellent eating table fish. Included in the captures off Portland this week was a Mako shark which weighed in at approximately 70kg. There have been solid reports of Makos showing up right along the coast from Bass Straight through to Portland. We have a heap of pre-made shark rigs in store so if your looking to tangle with one of these awesome sports fish drop by the store and have a chat.
