Report 22/12/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Dec 23, 2016 12:15 pm

The past week has seen some excellent fishing coming from both bays as well as out of town. The reports continue to be predominantly dominated by the whiting and snapper along with some good shark fishing. Staff members Lee and Mitch also experienced some excellent kingy fishing down in East Gippsland during the week. Be sure to pop in the store and the boys will happily share their advice to get you hooked up to a Victorian Kingfish.

Port Phillip Bay
We received the following fishing report from Magnet Fishing Charters regarding the fishing in Port Phillip Bay over the past week. "With Xmas on our doorstep a lot of people have stepped away from Port Phillip bay Snapper, wow how wrong. This last week has seen numbers not seen all season with quality and quantity right across the bay. There has been a massive influx of school sized reds and plenty of big boys to still keep you on your toes. Best area have been the eastern seaboard with fish from Mount Martha right through to Saint Kilda. Beat Baits for us have been pilchards. It's also been a good week for gummys with a heap taken on our charters. Fishing the deep water east of The bellarine has seen quality gumbos to 10 kg. With the holiday season on our doorstep the Magnet team in conjunction with fishing fever would like to wish everyone a merry Xmas and happy new year. Be safe on our waterways and stay patient. Tight lines. Magnet"

Aaron Habgood from Red's Fishing Adventures has also been putting his clients onto some lovely fish over the past week. Aaron has also reported some fantastic snapper fishing with bag out sessions late last week on the snapper. He has also been finding plenty of whiting, crayfish and scallops that are sure to make for a great Christmas feed. Nice work mate. The sounding below is from a solid session during the week where Aaron found the fish stacked up in there masses. It pays to spend a sufficient amount of time sounding your chosen fishing grounds if your wanting to find a hungry school of snapper.

Staff member James fishing this morning locally for a few hours chasing the whiting. Using fresh squid was the bait of choice and James caught some nice whiting for tonight's dinner.

Western Port
Luke and his mate caught these lovely snapper and Gummy sharks in westernport bay during the week. Fishing the run out tide with fresh baits in the current was the trick.

Out of Town: East Gippsland
Staff Members Lee McD and Mitch had a great day out on Monday and got stuck into the kingfish. The boys were fishing with live baits on the down rigger and caught a number of fish this way. They also had the kingfish come to the surface for a few hours where they caught them on surface stickbaits. Rapala subwalk 15 was the standout lure. If you are interested in chasing these awesome fish please come into the shop and chat to Lee McD.
