The boys have been busy rigging a heap of tuna skirts for those guys lucky enough to be getting down the coast for a fish on the jumbo tuna. There has been plenty of new stock arriving in preparation for the upcoming snapper season. Keep an eye out in the coming days for the new seasons snapper catalog that is chock full of everything you'll need for the coming season, including great deals and prices. On the fishing front we have seen some great captures on the tuna and still plenty of squid on offer locally. the Snapper seem to be starting to filter through this past week which is very exciting to see.

Port Phillip Bay
Fishing in the bay is really starting to fire up with the weather and water warming up. The snapper fishing has been relatively quite however there have been some reports filtering through. Most of the snapper taken so far have been from the northen end of the bay with multiple catches across Altona and St kilda.

Look for land based fishing for snapper to really start to fire at this time of year. Captures of great snapper to 5kg already being taken of Brighton Breakwall. The land based bite seems to proceed the official snapper season so if your after a big red fishing land based, now is the time. Proven land based spots for snapper include Sandringham and Brighton break walls, Beumaris pier, Mornington pier and Mordialloc pier.

Staff member James has had two sessions out on his kayak fishing rickets point in the last week. James braved the wind yesterday in search of a big snapper. He managed to find every but that. Some fun sized pinkies as well as some big salmon. Great fun on light gear and even better baits!

Staff member Mitch also fished the weekend in search of an early season red but to no prevail. He did however come across a somewhat rare catch finding a school of tailor to about 1.5kg. Mitch was fishing the top end of the bay around Port Melbourne.

Western Port
Similarly to Port Phillip, the snapper fishing in westernport is slowly starting to gain momentum. There has been several reports of early season snapper being caught in the top end of the bay. Good places to try for an early season red include Bouchers and Boltons channels. Using fresh baits such as squid, salmon, trevally etc is paramount to success.

A customer of the shop has been fishing the beaches of westernport with his old man. The boys have been fishing into the late hours of the night where they are finding a few nice size gummy sharks including this one pictured here. Definitely a nice reward after braving the cold and dark. This fish was caught off Johanna during the run out tide of the night.
