Report 16/9/16

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Sep 16, 2016 10:19 am

This week we have seen plenty of rain and wet conditions, but despite the conditions we have seen some great captures. There has been some amazing fishing for the Jumbo tuna on the West Coast while locally the tuna reports have slowed down.

The squid fishing has been nothing short of exceptional with plenty of squid coming from a variety of locations. This is one of the best times of the year to catch BIG breeding squid and fishing where there is clear water is a must. There has also been a few Snapper reports filtering through of early season reds and it will not be long now until the water starts to heat up and we see some great fishing!

We would also like to welcome our newest Staff member Mitch to the Fishing Fever team. Mitch has a passion for all things fishing including Estuary fishing and he is right into his trout fishing where he fishes out of his own tinny. Mitch has also worked on a charter boat where he was a deckhand for a local Snapper charter boat learning plenty of tricks and techniques for chasing the local Snapper in the bay and is more than happy to help and share his knowledge.

Port Phillip Bay
New staff member Mitch Bolger has been getting stuck into the whiting over at st Leonards this past week. Mitch said the fishing has been really hot with the fish biting well on the incoming tide. Fishing with pippies and fresh squid as a cocktail bait has seen his best results.

Aaron Habgood from reds fishing adventures has been into some quality squid this week down the bottom end of the bay. Fishing with a variety of jigs in the 3.5 size he has had a ball catching some beautiful squid for the dinner plate.

Ahmed fished st Leonard's during the week and had some great success on the local squid population. Ahmed said that most coloured jigs were working but had the most success on the pilchard coloured jigs.

Elizabeth fished with her Dad on the weekend down at point cook in 3 metres of water chasing the local squid. Elizabeth caught plenty of squid including her very first squid. Great to see the girls getting out on the water and showing Dad how its done.

Western Port
Gawaine Blake with Vince and Anthony have had some great success on the squid and whitting this week in Western Port. Using samurai inflict fishing rods and fresh squid as bait they caught plenty of whiting. Whilst on anchor fishing for whiting they were also throwing around a few squid jigs which saw them get some quality squid also.

Chris and Michael O'Connell went in search of some early season snapper and caught 2 beautiful Reds off Rhyll in Western Port. The fish went 66cm & 76cm and was caught on the the run out tide. Both fish were caught on fresh baits caught during the day.
