Report 26/2/15

Post by subeditor » Thu Feb 26, 2015 2:31 pm

Current discharge: 5793 ML per day.
Water level current: 38.2 %
Current inflow: 1903 ML per day.
Water level 18/02/2015: 40.5%
Water visibility: up to 1 metres
Rain past 7 days : 1 mm
Forecast Weather: Mostly sunny for the weekend. Temps between 18 & 34, winds up to 14 km. Clearing shower on Sunday 1 – 5 mm
Full Moon = March 6th New Moon = March 20th Water Temperature: 25 deg

Murray Cod: remain fairly quiet however Mick managed to troll up 4 smaller fish between 60 and 70 cm. Mick used hard body Orgee lures, did no good on spinner baits. There has also been the odd small fish taking shrimp worms or yabbies usually as a bye catch. The Bidgee River between the main basin and Scrubby seems to be the most likely. The Goodradigbee River is becoming quiet shallow with a lot of timber now showing from the top of Wade Island.

Yellow Belly: Have also quietened off with most fisherman reporting them tough to find. Bait fishing on the many trees with live shrimp is still the best chance. Plenty of big shrimp about which could be why the fish are a bit scarce. Dan from Wagga reported 11 yellows over the weekend on shrimp but he is not revealing his spot. I had a go this week with the lures and plastics in the main basin but came home empty handed. I suggest to go deeper to find the cooler water with either bait or plastics. Trolling will be tough when the yellows are holding tight to trees or in 10 metres of water.

Redfin: Dan from Wagga caught 17 on bait this week again not letting on where. The redfin were still firing this time a year ago with the water level still around 44%. Just a matter of finding them.

Carp: Plenty being caught on worms, corn & bread. Or even fly.

Park News: Cottage 8 painting is complete with the scaffold now going up around cottage 21 followed by 22. The new kitchens for 20 & 22 will also be finished for Easter.
Burrinjuck round of the Australian Yellow belly Championships 13th & 14th March.
