Report 10/09/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Wed Sep 10, 2014 10:47 am

Current discharge: 480 ML per day.
Water level current: 82.4 %
Current inflow: 3820 ML per day.
Water level: 27/08/14 77.6 %
Water visibility: up to 1 metres in main basin
Rain last 14 days = 26 mm
Forecast Weather: Mostly sunny for the weekend. Temps between 4 & 19 deg with light breeze up to 10 km from the west.
Full Moon = September 9, New Moon = September 24
Water Temperature: 14 -16 deg

Murray Cod: Closed Season. No doubt there will be a lot of Cod caught over the coming 3 months including some big ones. I won’t be reporting on or posting any photos from the closed period 1 September until 30 November.

Yellow Belly: It has been very quiet for the lure fishermen during the past few days. I have spent several hours casting & trolling this week for zero results. Bait fishing with worms from the bank early morning and late afternoon/evenings is the best. We had thunder storms on Tuesday night sweep over the region which saw 25 mm of rain fall overnight at the park. This will see an increased inflow over the next few days. Casting lures such as spinner baits, crank baits or even hard bodies into any inflowing water will be well worth a try. The water temps further up the rivers has reached 16 degrees and remains at about 14 in the main basin. The yellows typically come on the bite at the top end of the dam earlier in the season. Water clarity is also lower up the rivers with some algae starting to appear. There are also quite a few floaters about as the water rises so boaters need to be watchful.

Redfin: Remain very quiet. No reports this week at all

Trout: No reports

Park News: Confirmation this week that funding has been approved for some major capital works. We are in the design stage now with works to commence to water treatment & sewerage after Easter 2015.
