Report 31/8/15

Post by Nicole Penfold » Mon Aug 31, 2015 2:39 pm

Estuary: Reports are that the estuary is still on the boil with blackfish in numbers never seen before. One spearo told me that he could spear 10 at once if he tried!!! Anglers have been working the wall plus the edges of the racks and all have come away with a great feed. On the Bream side a few guys have worked the racks on the high tide in kayaks and have got a feed throwing a unweighted Whitebait. Early in the week I received a report from a regular customer who managed eight Flathead using small hard body Saku lures last Sunday morning. He was fishing the shallows in Ohmas Bay at Tuncurry with all fish coming in at over 40cm.

Rock: Drummer everywhere is what I hear along with plenty of reports of Rock Cod in good ‘keeper’ size. Boomerang Beach northern end rocks are fishing the best, with plenty of Bream amongst the catch plus a few Blackfish as well.

Offshore: Up north again near Old Bar the Snapper are really turning up in good numbers. A group of three customers fished the area last Saturday and Sunday morning for a good feed of nine fish with the smallest hitting the scales at 3kg with the best coming in at 7.3kg. All fish were caught on Z Man soft plastics on a light jighead and came on the bite just on first light. Fishing down on the bottom will get a good feed of Rock Cod. Anglers that are targeting Flathead at the moment are getting good results if they can get through the jackets. The ocean is loaded in jackets, so be prepared to rig up accordingly.

Beach: Most beaches seem to be firing well with good reports from Tuncuury Beach. John Davis hit the beach a few nights this week and got amongst some nice Jewfish around the 80cm mark. Plenty of Bream happy to take Pilchard fillets or beachworms. Early morning fishos are getting a feed of Tailor on Seven Mile with a few good Greenbacks in amongst the catch.
