Weekly Report 07/02/14

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Feb 07, 2014 3:01 pm

Wallis Lake continues to turn on the crabs with outstanding reports of good catches of both Muddies and Blue Swimmers. The blue swimmers are hanging around Tony’s Island, Dago Island plus along the shoreline at Green Point right down to the sailing club. Mud Crabs in the Wallamba River are still around and I have received reports that along the edges near the Cattle Crossing are producing good size crabs. Forster Keys also has the locals well stocked with Muddies off most of the pontoons.

Flathead are still being caught in good numbers in all the regular haunts. The last few hours of the run out tide using either baits or soft plastics will get you a good feed. Extra large Flathead have been lurking around under the Tuncurry Bridge near the fisheries boatshed. There have been reports of Hammerhead Sharks along the breakwall taking gear and baits. Bream are being caught amongst the racks on small hard body lures late in the afternoon.

Not much to report this week other than a few guys got some Tailor off Janies Corner!

Heaps and heaps of bonito in close taking metal spinners near the Cape. Reports of Flathead to the size of fish tubs are on the gravel beds on the drift taking fresh Bonito strips. There are reports of good size Pearl Perch –- some up to 4.5kg -- north of town, while the normal reef grounds are producing good Morwong and snapper to the 5kg mark.

Great catches of Whiting off Elizabeth Beach early morning taking beach worms. Further north at Farquhar, Mulloway are plentiful at night although only school size around the 50cm mark. Legal fish are amongst them.
