Weekly Report 24/01/14

Hit the lake tonight for the first night of the Prawn Dark. Run out tide and no moon will give pleasing results, with a early report in from last night of 6 litres caught. Remember that we have greasy back prawns within our lake system so a cotton prawn scoop is essential.

Still plenty of nice flathead are being lifted out around the back Twin Islands and drifting near Mosquito island using Ecooda Shrimp Lures or Z Man Streakz in Baby Bass colour. Wallamba River is fishing well up at Nabiac and beyond with a reliable source reporting Bass around 40cm plus common. Sammy 65 or similar surface lures are working the best. Oyster Leases worked on dusk are producing good size bream if you berley up a bit.

A few good size Bonito were caught around Janies Corner late afternoon on metals, while most ledges are producing good Bream. Down south off Seagull Point a few Kingfish are being taken.

Nor East winds hampered most offshore fishing over the last week. However, early this week anglers got out in better conditions. Scott Telfer fished south on Monday and landed Trag with the largest measuring in at 75cm. North is producing fish on the 40 metre mark while in closer Flathead are plentiful. Out wide on the shelf water temps are up at 26 degrees and most boats are getting amongst quality fish with a few Bar Cod making it back to the cleaning tables.

Beaches are hit and miss at the moment with only a few reports in. Whiting and Bream are there and will take beach worms however plenty of effort is required. A few Salmon taking Pilchards on Tuncurry Beach late afternoon.
