Weekly Report 18/10/13

Post by Nicole Penfold » Fri Oct 18, 2013 3:09 pm

ESTUARY: The lake at the moment is firing well with the start of some nice sized Flathead getting around the flats. Many reports are filtering in with anglers landing fish in the 50cm plus range. The back of Tern Island is the place to fish land-based, with thumper Flathead up to 90cm in close. Whiting are still blanketing the lake with a bag limit easy to catch in 15 minutes!

Bream fishos are struggling with a lake that is now crystal clear and fish that are spooked. Those anglers who are catching them are still working the racks and structure, and the fish are all good quality. We’ve found Z-Man GrubZ to be the pick of the plastics, worked on a Hidden Weight jighead.

Tuncurry Bridge pylons after dark are boiling with chopper tailor while along the Breakwall up to the old Boatland Marine Shed still has a few blackfish.

ROCK: A few guys fished Janies Corner last Saturday morning early for some quality Tailor and a few bream. Further south, Jewfish are chasing live baits along the back of Seal Rocks. Closer to town a few small rat kingfish are taking metals near the Tanks.

OFFSHORE: It’s been a hard week with gale-force winds over the last few days. A few locals however have fished the last two days in a bit more pleasant weather and come home with mixed bags. Snapper up north plus a few Trag in one outing was one boat’s catch, while others got amongst the Flatties up to 70cm in about 50m of water on the gravel.

BEACH: The moon phase coming in next week should improve fishing along the beaches for Jews; at the moment there are only a few reports of smaller fish being caught. As mentioned, near Janie’s Corner a few tailor seem to be along Seven Mile each afternoon.
