Weekly Report 7/10/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Oct 07, 2011 3:25 pm

Estuary: Plenty of fresh water from recent downpours has sent fish to sea looking for saltwater. Flathead are still there in good numbers and sizes up to mid-60cm have been common. Bait fishos have had success using mullet strips or Hawkesbury prawns whilst the lure fisho’s have hit the jackpot with Rapala XR6 lures or soft plastics. Bream are slowly disappearing for summer but around the racks good numbers are still to be found. Ecogear prawn soft plastics on a small Hidden Weight jighead will get results. Good whiting along the shoreline at Green Point on surface poppers, while garfish are still on the bite down near The Step.
Rocks: Plenty of XOS groper along most shorelines. Get a bag of black crabs or cunjevoi for the best. Royal red prawns will work as well and will entice the drummer as a by-catch.
Offshore: Very slow week – the latter part returned to normal with good catches of plate size snapper and pearl perch. Reefs around Black Head and 5 Mile have been working the best.
Beach: Not a bad week considering the weather with good reports of plenty of school jew along Tuncurry Beach and northern beaches such as Diamond. Still a few bream around Janies Corner. Holidaymakers staying at Tiona have reported the odd whiting along the back of the camping ground.
