Report 2/2/18

With some of our biggest tides of the year upon us, fishing the creeks is near impossible. However it is the perfect time to explore the beaches and headlands and as the big tides push the bait along with predators move into these areas. Combine that with the opening of barra season and Id imagine there will be a lot of barra pics coming through over the next few day. Concentrate on setting up on the top of the tide for the run out with live bait for best results. Lead up to these big tides the creeks held healthy numbers of fingermark out of deeper holes.
Bill had a ball cashing Mangrove Jacks with his son Craig recently catching a bunch of nice fish like this one.

These tides however have allowed anglers to work areas such as the Magnetic Island flats casting soft plastics and hard bodied lures along the reef edge to fool table size coral trout. Also have a squid lure rigged up as there are plenty of these guys there and can show up at any time and leave just as quick
John had a great day out fishing one of the channel markers off Townsville landing this impressive fingermark.

Many have taken advantage of the recent good weather in hope of some fingermark or grunter. There have been some reliable reports of grunter caught off reputable spots off Cape Cleveland. They should continue to fire until the tides slow up a little, and hopefully we should hear of some fingermark captures. A bit wider we have some feedback form the reefs and I would have thought the topwater anglers would have blitz the reefies on these tides, however it has been a little slow. This big moon can work for or against you and I think it hasn’t been as productive as what we all may have thought. But there is always the next moon!
Not sure if everyone has seen it or not but Northern Conquest Charters landed a GT that was estimated at around 60kg! Probably one of the only GT pics Ive seen that I feel it genuinely looks every bit of 60kg!
Until next week! Now get out there and send in your barramundi pics to kick off the 2018 season!
Jai loves his fishing and on a recent trip off Bowen managed to land this quality coral trout.
