Weekly Report 1 Aug 13

Post by Brad » Thu Aug 01, 2013 6:50 pm

It looks like we are in for a nice run of weather with early mornings looking ideal for cashing a few mackerel in the bay and around the rocky headlands. August is a great month for fishing in our part of the world with great pelagic action around the inshore shoals with the size of the Spanish mackerel starting to increase in size. Reports of some 20kg fish are starting to trickle in from those trolling wolf herring (soft plastic versions or real) around the rocky headlands of Cape Cleveland and Cape Upstart and the Palm Islands. The bay is also producing some nice catches of doggy mackerel and land based most of the Northern beaches are starting to produce some quality whiting. To the south places like Phillips landing and Alva beach are also reporting quality whiting. The whiting is a great fish for the younger anglers in your family being great fighters on light line and easy to handle.

It is looking good for another great light tackle marlin season with reports of plenty of bait and fish willing to take a well rigged skipping gar or swimming mullet. Teasing the fish up and switching the fish onto live baits is also a great way to get the heart racing and ultimately a bend in the rod. It is also well worth setting a few crab pots with reports of most crabs of legal length being as full as a boot and very good taste buds. Sorry for the shortened version this week we will be back to the normal format next week. Hope you all have a great weekend and catch plenty of fish.
