Weekly Report 31 Jan 09

Post by Brad » Sat Jan 31, 2009 7:58 am

Another short report I'm afraid. Winds have been approaching gale force all week and there is no respite in sight. There is no way I'd be venturing into Corio Bay or even launching in Coorooman at the moment, just too ugly. Rumour is there have still been a few decent crabs about, so perhaps that could be an option right up the back of the estuaries?

The barra season opens at midday on Sunday 1 February, but I really can't suggest we'll see too many being caught. The combination of the poor conditions and the dangerously low stock levels around Central Queensland, make catching a legal sized barra a very remote prospect. The best chance will probably be using a live bait under the bridge in Rocky. It is the summer monsoon season though, so we can't complain too much as long as someone gets decent rain into the bargain.
